Originally used by the Eastern Woodlands Indians, the War Club found its way across the Great Plains to the Pacific coast. These clubs, carved from hardwoods, weighed several pounds, and often had a knife point (of antler, bone, flint or metal) attached to increase their lethality. The clubs, like tomahawks, were often embellished with carvings, feathers, leather, paint, beads, brass tacks, scalplocks, etc. These weapons still were in use in the late 1800s.
This War Club was made from traditional American Black Walnut, measures 23 1/2 inches long and 4 1/2 inches at its widest point which is the handle. Inlaid with 8 graduated circles of hand carved Wampum, in addition to 4 diamond Wampum pieces in the handle for the 4 directions. Brass tacks accent the stock, which is tradional. Stainless Steel blade measures 4 inches long. Hand cut Elk skin strap for hanging.
This is a one of a kind showpiece!
